May 1870: “This afternoon [May 2, 1870] the Athletics will play their first game of the season with the Keystones, at Seventeenth street and Columbia avenue. The Keystones — who appear in their new uniform of mazarine blue shirts, pants, and caps — will play the following nine: […]” From the Philadelphia Evening Telegraph, May 2, 1870. Research from Ed Morton. According to Webster’s online dictionary, mazarine blue is a deep purplish blue.

May 2, 1870, Keystone, Philadelphia, v.
