March 1882: “A uniform entirely different from any worn in the arena this season will be provided for the Philadelphia Club.” From the Philadelphia Record, March 25, 1882. Research from Ed Morton.

April 8, 1882, Philadelphia (League Alliance) v. Providence (NL), at Philadelphia, Recreation Park: “On this occasion they entered the field attired in the handsomest uniform ever worn by a Philadelphia team, the dress being similar — except in caps — to that worn by the old Cincinnati and Boston ‘Red Stockings,’ the cap being a handsome improvement.” From the New York Clipper, April 15, 1882. Research from Matt Albertson, who added that this League Alliance team was owned by sports manufacturing magnate Al Reach and that it joined the National League in 1883.
