Written documentation on this uniform:
April 1891: “The uniforms of the [Rochester] club will be pearl gray with black trimmings, black caps and stockings.” From the Buffalo Courier, April 10, 1891, citing the Rochester Democrat. This report was also printed in the Lebanon (PA) Daily News, April 10, 1891. Lebanon research from Don Stokes.

April 1891: “The [Rochester] uniforms for this season are to be gray, with black trimmings and stockings, with name across the breast.” From The Sporting Life, April 18, 1891. Research from Chuck McGill. This report mentioned the city name across the shirt.

July 2, 1891, Rochester v. Lebanon at Rochester, Culver Field: “The home team made its appearance in new and gaudy uniforms, and the few faithful cranks hoped that they would prove a mascot.” From The Sporting Life, July 11, 1891. This issue also stated “The Rochesters appeared on Thursday last [July 2] in new black uniforms with maroon trimmings.” This second report was researched by Chuck McGill. Unfortunately, the new uniforms did not bring the anticipated luck as Rochester lost 7 to 2.

July 2, 1891, Rochester v. Lebanon at Rochester, Culver Field: “Arrayed in their new uniforms of black with maroon trimmings the members of the Rochester base ball aggregation made their appearance on the diamond yesterday afternoon.” From the Rochester Herald, July 3, 1891. Research from Priscilla Astifan.
