Written documentation on this uniform:
February 1891: “Mr. [Bill] Watkins [St. Paul manager] has just placed his order for the team’s uniforms. They will wear blue pants, white shirts, belts and stockings, blue caps and tourist coats. This year there will be no double uniform system, one for the home grounds and the other for the trips.” From the St. Paul Globe, February 1, 1891. Research from Don Stokes. The last sentence in this passage is open for interpretation and it may suggest the team planned to have one uniform design for both home and road games in 1891.

February 1891: “The uniforms of the St. Paul Club have been ordered. They will be same as the old Detroit uniform–white shirt and stockings, navy blue pants, cap and belt and Norfolk jackets. The bats have also been ordered, part of them from Hilbrick [Hillerich], of Louisville, and part of them from Jim Curtis, of North Adams, Mass.” From The Sporting Life, February 7, 1891. Research from Chuck McGill. Note that this report described that the belts were navy in color, not white as stated by the Globe report from February 1, see above. Additionally, the Detroit uniforms of 1886-1888, which presumably this article referenced, also had white belts.
