April 1896: “The uniforms of the Atlanta team this year will be black shirts with letter ‘A’ in white on left breast; white knickerbockers, black caps, stockings and belts. This will be the home uniform. Abroad the team will have blue knickerbockers with black shirts, caps and stockings.” From The Sporting Life, April 11, 1896. Research from Chuck McGill. Note that the Atlanta Constitution reported on April 20, 1896 that the letter “A” on the shirt covered “the middle of the chest,” see below.

April 1896: “The Atlanta and Columbus teams to meet at Brisbane Park [in Atlanta]. New Uniforms will be worn. […] So far the Atlantas have been playing in last year[’s] uniforms, but this afternoon [April 20, 1896] the men will appear in their new uniforms. […] The uniform is made up of a black shirt, with a long ‘A’ in white covering the middle of the chest, black or rather a very dark blue cap and black stockings. The knickerbockers are white, with very little bagging. A leather belt, tan color, will be worn.” From the Atlanta Constitution, April 20, 1896. Research from Ed Morton.


Team genealogy: Atlanta 1892-1896
Atlanta joined the Southern League (SL) in 1892 when the league reformed. The reorganized SL operated between 1892 and 1896 and folded after the 1896 season. Atlanta played in the SL between 1892 and June 1894. On June 27, 1894 the Atlanta team disbanded and the Mobile team was transferred to Atlanta to finish the season.
