April 1899: “Manager [Frank] Rinn has already ordered the new uniforms for the club. They will be blue gray material, with the name ‘Reading’ in maroon across the breast, and maroon stockings. The uniforms were ordered through Hoff & Bros., from the Victor Sporting Goods company.” From the Reading Times, April 5, 1899. Research from Ed Morton.

April 1899: “Reading, April 5. – The new uniforms for the Reading team have been ordered. […] The shirts and pants will be bluish gray; caps same material with maroon band; stockings maroon, and belts of buff leather. Across the breast of the shirts will be the word ‘Reading’ in large maroon letters.” From the Philadelphia Times, April 6, 1899. Research from Don Stokes.

April 1899, Reading v. Lancaster, at Reading: “Lancaster trotted out to practice first. They wore the same color uniform as last year [1898] – maroon—and red stockings. […] When the Reading players in their new suits of gray-blue cloth, with red trimmings and stockings, took the field for practice, they were enthusiastically greeted by the rooters.” From the Reading Times, April 28, 1899.
